Byrne, Sister Elaine, OSU, Maple Mount, KY, January 20, 2011 - Sister Elaine Byrne, 65, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died January 20, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 47th year of religious life. She was a native of Curdsville. Sister Elain was pastoral associate at St. Francis DeSales (1989-92) and St. Thomas More (2006-07), both in Paducah, at St. Mary in LaCenter (1988-94), St. Charles, Bardwell (1988-89) and St. Jerome, Fancy Farm (2009-2011). She ministered elsewhere in Kentucky and Missouri. Survivors include two sisters, Margie Rode of Whiteland, IN, and Mary Lou Payne of Philpot; three brothers, JL Byrne, Tony Byrne and Eddie Byrne; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Byrne, all of Owensboro; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community. The funeral Mass will be at 10:30AM Tuesday, January 24, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Monday at 4PM, with a wake service following at 6:30PM. Hobbs, Robert L, "Bob", 78, Louisville, KY, July 16, 2011 - He was born in Fancy Farm, KY on June 7, 1933 to Everett Hobbs and Iva Toon Hobbs. He was an Army Veteran and Catholic by faith. A long time member of St. Basil's and recently of Mary, Queen of Peace Church in Louisville. He is a retiree from Ford Motor Co. in 1992 with 26 years of service. He worked part-time at Superior Van Co after retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Curtis, Bill, Earl and Ed; a sister, Mary Ella (Mae) Carrico. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Verna Jean Wilson Hobbs, his son, Kevin Hobbs (Lisa) and four grandsons; a daughter, Kimberly Hobbs; one sister, Lucille Robinette, two brothers, Dewey and Tom Hobbs; a great number of nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. The funeral was held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with a military Army tribute playing bagpipes.

Harlow, Sister May Gemma, 92, a native of Harrodsburg, KY, died at Nazareth Home on November 25, 2011 - She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 71 years. Sister served in the apostolate of education as teacher, principal and supervisor in Kentucky and Tennessee for 44 years. In the Diocesed of Owensboro Sister taught at Fancy Farm Grade School (St. Jerome Parish) from 1942-43 and again from 1950-57; at St. Joseph Grade School, Bowling Green, KY from 1957-61; and served as principal of Holy Name Grade School, Henderson, KY from 1961-62. Survivors include a nice, Barbara Kincaid of Lexington, KY, cousisns and her religious community.
